New Zealand’s NZ$2.8 Million Oyster Initiative Includes Skills Development

On 22 October, the government announced NZ$2.8 million in support for oyster-farming infrastructure in Kaipara, including a commercial pilot farm designed to build aquaculture skills and capability within local Māori communities. The project includes mentoring from experienced oyster farmers, but the funding is for the wider resilience initiative rather than a separately priced recruitment or training contract.
