On 22 October, the government announced a NZ$2.8 million Regional Infrastructure Fund grant for a new oyster relay site, a 3-hectare commercial pilot farm and supporting marine infrastructure in Kaipara. The project aims to reduce disruption caused by water-quality-related harvest closures and support the resilience of Northland’s oyster industry; the funding is a specific grant, not a national environmental-spending total.
Environmental consultants, aquaculture businesses and sustainability teams can explore water-quality monitoring, environmental data analysis and resource-efficiency planning.
